Urinary urgency and frequency of nerve origin — Evidence and experience

Medically reviewed by Dr Renaud Bollens — Professor of Urology

Evidence and experience

What the evidence and two decades of surgical experience say about urinary urgency nerve.

Urgency, frequency and a sense of incomplete emptying can all be produced by pudendal nerve irritation, in the presence of a completely normal bladder work-up.

Patients often carry a diagnosis of overactive bladder or interstitial cystitis for years. When medication for those conditions has never helped, the assumption behind it deserves review.

As a urologist, Dr Bollens evaluates bladder symptoms and nerve symptoms in the same consultation instead of separating them between specialties.

Dr Bollens is a professor of urology, a proctor in pelvic surgery and a published author on pudendal neuralgia.
