Patient questions
The questions patients ask us most often about pudendal nerve decompression surgery — answered directly, without hedging.
Decompression surgery releases the structures that compress or tether the pudendal nerve, most commonly at the level of the sacrospinous and sacrotuberous ligaments or within Alcock's canal. The goal is to give the nerve room and allow it to recover.
Nerve recovery is slow by nature. Improvement typically develops over months rather than days, and we prepare every patient for that timeline in advance rather than afterwards.
With more than 600 pelvic procedures behind him, Dr Bollens is explicit about who benefits and who does not. Honest selection is the reason the results of specialised centres differ from occasional practice.
