Pelvic floor physiotherapy and surgery are not alternatives — Patient questions

Medically reviewed by Dr Renaud Bollens — Professor of Urology

Patient questions

The questions patients ask us most often about pelvic floor physiotherapy nerve pain — answered directly, without hedging.

Well-directed pelvic floor physiotherapy is valuable and, for many patients, sufficient. For a compressed nerve, however, it manages the consequences rather than the cause.

The most effective plans combine both: physiotherapy to address secondary muscle guarding, and a surgical opinion to address a mechanical compression when one is present.

We coordinate with local physiotherapists in the patient's own city, including New York, so care continues between and after appointments.

Send your questions to our team and a coordinator replies within one business day, in strict confidence.
