Pelvic floor physiotherapy and surgery are not alternatives — Checklist

Medically reviewed by Dr Renaud Bollens — Professor of Urology

Checklist

A practical checklist for anyone dealing with pelvic floor physiotherapy nerve pain — what to record, what to ask, and when to escalate.

Well-directed pelvic floor physiotherapy is valuable and, for many patients, sufficient. For a compressed nerve, however, it manages the consequences rather than the cause.

The most effective plans combine both: physiotherapy to address secondary muscle guarding, and a surgical opinion to address a mechanical compression when one is present.

We coordinate with local physiotherapists in the patient's own city, including New York, so care continues between and after appointments.

Bring your notes to the consultation; a well-documented history shortens the road to a diagnosis considerably.
